I am an avid traveller and have taken help from many travel agencies over the years. I haven't seen anyone come close to what PYT provides starting from providing itinerary, working with us on visa, helping us through documentation, changes required and support during the overall journey is incredible. Some folks like Nayanashi and Rinchen here are just amazing. We just finished a 10 day trip to Italy and it was just awesome. Dedicated to providing what we need in terms of travel, sight seeing, transfers required etc

"A huge shout out to Pickyourtrail for helping me with my Italy trip. They were on the ball from the very beginning and helped navigate everything smoothly. But the big kicker is the personal concierge service they offer when you are travelling as well. One of the main pain points when you travel to another country is using public transport - but these guys gave me bus/train routes on the go and helped out. If you are planning a trip, I'd suggest using their website - it's customizable, flexible and intuitive. Thanks a ton Agni, Lony, Chandru, Narayanan & the rest of the PYT team. Salute!"

Italy Honeymoon Tour Packages

Italy is, for most couples, the default answer to the question of where to honeymoon in Europe. The combination of Amalfi Coast sunsets, Rome's romantically lit piazzas at night, and the quiet magic of Tuscany's countryside creates an itinerary that does not need embellishment.

Our most recommended Italy honeymoon packages:

Rome + Amalfi Coast + Venice (6 nights): The classic Italian romance itinerary. Spend 2 nights in Rome exploring the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, and a rooftop dinner overlooking the city, then move south to the Amalfi Coast for 2 nights split between Ravello and Positano and 2 Nights exploring Venice, starting from approximately ₹128,681per person (4-star hotels, twin sharing, breakfast included).

Milan + Venice + Florence + Naples + Sorrento (9 nights): One of the most balanced Italy itineraries, this journey combines iconic cities, rich cultural heritage, stunning coastal scenery, and authentic Italian experiences. Spend time exploring Milan's fashion-forward streets, Venice's romantic canals, Florence's Renaissance treasures, Naples' vibrant local culture, and the picturesque seaside town of Sorrento overlooking the Bay of Naples. Ideal for first-time visitors looking to experience Italy's highlights in a single trip. Starting from approximately ₹124,059 per person.

Popular honeymoon experiences include:

  • Private sunset boat cruise along the Amalfi Coast
  • Candlelit dinner at Piazza Navona with Borromini's Sant'Agnese as a backdrop
  • A couple's wine tasting at a Chianti estate in Tuscany
  • Gondola ride through Venice's quieter inner canals (early morning, before the crowds arrive)
  • Truffle hunting experience in Umbria
  • Thermal spa (terme) experiences in Saturnia, Tuscany

Italy Family Tour Packages

Italy works remarkably well as a family destination, but it rewards families who plan intelligently. Rome, in particular, has a way of making children genuinely excited about history; the Colosseum triggers imaginations in a way that few museums ever do.

Top Italy family experiences:

  • Colosseum underground tours with gladiator demonstrations (Rome)
  • Making pasta and pizza in hands-on cooking classes (Florence, Sorrento)
  • Gondola ride and glassblowing at Murano Island (Venice)
  • Leaning Tower of Pisa climb (Pisa - essential, not optional)
  • Pompeii ruins near Naples, the preserved city, captivates children aged 10 and above
  • Gelato-making workshops
  • Cycling through the Tuscan countryside (bike rental available in Florence and Siena)

How should your Italy family tour package look like? Rome + Florence + Venice in 7–8 nights. Add Naples + Pompeii if you have 10+ days. Starting from approximately ₹52,317 per person, including 3-star hotels, breakfast, and transfers.

Italy Luxury Tour Packages

For travellers who want Italy without compromise, our Italy luxury tour packages centre on exceptional stays, private access, and experiences unavailable on standard itineraries.

Luxury experiences include:

  • Private after-hours Colosseum tour with an archaeologist guide
  • Belmond Hotel Cipriani, Venice, one of Europe's most iconic hotel experiences
  • Villa San Michele, Fiesole, a 15th-century monastery-turned-hotel above Florence
  • Private yacht charter along the Amalfi Coast
  • VIP access to the Vatican Museums before public opening hours
  • Helicopter transfer from Rome to the Amalfi Coast
  • Truffle hunting with lunch at a Michelin-starred Umbrian restaurant

Luxury Italy tour packages from India typically start from ₹2,50,000 per person for 10 nights.

  • Classic Italy + Amalfi Coast or Tuscany: 10–11 days
  • Classic Italy + Cinque Terre + Naples & Pompeii: 12–14 days

  • Avoid rushing through iconic cities just to tick them off your list.
  • Focus on experiencing Italy, not just covering it.

Best Places to Visit in Italy

1. Rome

Rome is the country's historic capital and one of the world's most fascinating cities. With over 2,800 years of continuous history, it is home to ancient ruins, grand piazzas, iconic landmarks, and world-renowned museums.

The city's biggest highlight is the Colosseum, a remarkable 70,000-seat amphitheatre that has stood since AD 80 and remains one of the most recognisable landmarks in Europe. The Vatican Museums house one of the world's largest art collections, including the legendary Sistine Chapel, and warrant at least half a day on their own. Visitors can also explore the Trevi Fountain, Pantheon, and Roman Forum within a walkable historic centre. For a more local experience, head to Trastevere in the evening, known for its cobblestone streets, lively cafes, authentic restaurants, and a neighbourhood atmosphere that feels entirely removed from the tourist circuit.

Tip: Book Colosseum tickets 2 to 3 weeks ahead. The after-hours tours give you access to the arena floor where gladiators stood, which daytime visitors cannot access.

2. Florence

Florence is one of the highlights of any Italy trip, especially for travellers interested in art, history, and architecture. Compact and highly walkable, the city allows you to explore the Uffizi Gallery, Accademia Gallery, and the iconic Florence Cathedral within a short distance of each other.

The city is home to some of the world's greatest Renaissance masterpieces, including Botticelli's Birth of Venus and Michelangelo's David. For a more local side of Florence, cross the Ponte Vecchio to Oltrarno, where you will find artisan workshops, traditional trattorias, charming bookshops, and the beautiful Boboli Gardens. Florence rewards travellers who slow down. Two full days is the minimum to do it justice without feeling rushed.

Practical tip: Pre-book both the Uffizi and Accademia tickets. Walk-up queues in peak season can be 3 to 4 hours long. Florence Cards that bundle multiple museums are cost-effective for those staying 3 or more nights.

3. Venice

Venice is unlike anywhere else in Europe. With no cars, motorbikes, or traffic, the city moves entirely by water, through canals, bridges, and historic waterways that have remained largely unchanged for centuries. The best way to start is a vaporetto ride along the Grand Canal, which provides stunning views of centuries-old palaces and iconic landmarks for a fraction of the cost of a gondola.

Do not miss the Rialto Market in the morning and the magnificent St. Mark's Basilica, famous for its golden Byzantine mosaics. Beyond the major attractions, the real charm of Venice lies in quieter neighbourhoods like Cannaregio, Castello, and Dorsoduro, where you will find local cafes, traditional bacari wine bars, and a more authentic side of the city away from the crowds.

Gondola reality check: The standard gondola ride is €90 for 30 minutes. It is romantic and memorable but finite. The vaporetto gives you far more of Venice for far less.

4. Amalfi Coast

A trip to the Amalfi Coast showcases one of Italy's most spectacular landscapes, where colourful cliffside towns meet the sparkling waters of the Mediterranean. Stretching from Sorrento to Positano, Amalfi, and Ravello, the coastal route is famous for its dramatic views, winding roads, and postcard-perfect scenery.

Positano is the coast's most iconic destination, known for its pastel-coloured houses cascading down to the sea, while Ravello offers a quieter atmosphere and breathtaking coastal panoramas from landmarks such as Villa Cimbrone. Visitors can easily explore the coastline by ferry or local buses, making it one of the most rewarding additions to any Italy itinerary.

5. Tuscany

A Tuscany trip offers a slower, more scenic side of Italy, with rolling vineyards, cypress-lined roads, medieval hill towns, and world-famous wine regions. While Florence serves as the main gateway, destinations such as Siena, San Gimignano, Montepulciano, and Pienza showcase the region's timeless beauty and rich heritage.

The scenic Chianti countryside is a highlight, offering picturesque drives through vineyards and charming villages. For a more authentic experience, many travellers choose traditional agriturismo farm stays, where vineyard views, local cuisine, and a relaxed pace of life provide a memorable escape from Italy's bustling cities.

6. Milan

Milan offers a different side of Italy, blending world-class fashion, modern design, historic landmarks, and vibrant city life. The city's most iconic attraction is the Milan Cathedral, one of the largest Gothic cathedrals in Europe, and its rooftop terrace offers one of the best elevated views of the city. Art lovers should not miss The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci at Santa Maria delle Grazie, which requires advance booking as entry is strictly timed and limited.

The lively Navigli district is ideal for evening strolls, aperitivo culture, and canalside dining, while shoppers can explore the luxury boutiques of the Quadrilatero della Moda. Milan works well as either an entry or exit point for an Italy itinerary and pairs naturally with Lake Como as a day trip.

7. Cinque Terre

A visit to Cinque Terre takes you to five stunning seaside villages, Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore, perched dramatically along the Ligurian coastline. Connected by scenic hiking trails and local trains, the region is famous for its colourful cliffside houses, breathtaking sea views, and picturesque walking routes.

Among the villages, Manarola is particularly renowned for its postcard-perfect harbour and spectacular sunset views. Whether you explore on foot, by train, or by boat, Cinque Terre offers one of Italy's most memorable coastal experiences and is a favourite among nature lovers, photographers, and couples.

8. Naples and Pompeii

Naples is Italy's most chaotic, most energetic, and most misunderstood city, and it serves the best pizza on earth (the Margherita was invented here). It is not a typical tourist city; it is a living, messy, extraordinary place. The Archaeological Museum here holds the finest Roman artefacts found at Pompeii and Herculaneum.

Pompeii, 25 km south, is one of the most extraordinary archaeological sites in the world: a Roman town preserved under volcanic ash since AD 79, with streets, homes, frescoes, food stalls, and human casts still visible. Allow a full day. Visit in the morning to avoid the worst heat and crowds.

Best Time to Visit Italy from India

  • Spring (April–June) – Best Overall
    • Temperature: 15–26°C
    • Pleasant weather, blooming landscapes, fewer crowds
    • Best for: Sightseeing, honeymoons, hiking
  • Summer (July–August) – Peak Season
    • Temperature: 28–35°C
    • Long daylight hours and beach season
    • Can be crowded, expensive, and very hot
    • Best for: Amalfi Coast, beaches, nightlife
  • Autumn (September–October) – Best Value

  • Christmas & New Year (20 Dec–5 Jan)
    • Festive atmosphere and holiday celebrations
    • Higher hotel and flight prices
    • Best for: Rome, Venice, Christmas markets

Recommended Months: April–June and September–October offer the best combination of comfortable weather, manageable crowds, and good value.

Which Countries Pair Best with Italy?

Italy works exceptionally well as part of a multi-country Europe trip. Here's how the most popular combinations compare for Indian travellers:

Itinerary Ideal Duration Best For Approx. Land Cost*
Italy Only 8–10 nights First-time visitors, culture & food lovers ₹1.1–1.8 lakh
Italy + Switzerland 12–14 nights Honeymooners, scenic train journeys, Alps + culture ₹2.0–2.8 lakh
Italy + France 12–14 nights Art, museums, food, and iconic landmarks ₹2.2–3.0 lakh
Italy + Croatia 12–14 nights Coastal towns, beaches, and history ₹1.8–2.6 lakh
Italy + Greece 14–16 nights Islands, beaches, and ancient civilisations ₹2.0–2.8 lakh

*Indicative land cost per person based on twin-sharing accommodation and 4-star hotels.

Our Recommendations

  • First Europe trip: Italy alone for 8–10 nights.
  • Best honeymoon combination: Italy + Switzerland.
  • Best culture-focused itinerary: Italy + France.
  • Best beach and history mix: Italy + Croatia.
  • Best Mediterranean experience: Italy + Greece.

How to Reach Italy from India

Italy is best reached via Rome's Leonardo da Vinci (Fiumicino) Airport or Milan's Malpensa Airport. There are no fully direct non-stop scheduled flights from India to Italy as of 2026; most routes connect through hub airports in the Gulf (Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha) or European hubs.

Route Duration Airlines
Mumbai – Rome (FCO) ~10–11 hrs (1 stop) Emirates, Etihad, Qatar Airways, Air India
Delhi – Rome (FCO) ~9.5–11 hrs (1 stop) Emirates, Qatar Airways, Lufthansa, Air India
Mumbai – Milan (MXP) ~10–12 hrs (1 stop) Emirates, SWISS, ITA Airways
Delhi – Venice (VCE) ~11–13 hrs (1 stop) Emirates via Dubai, Lufthansa via Frankfurt
Chennai – Rome ~12–14 hrs (1 stop) Qatar Airways, Emirates
Bengaluru – Rome ~11–13 hrs (1 stop) Emirates, Qatar Airways

Routing tip: Flying into Rome and out of Venice (or vice versa) avoids backtracking and is usually the most efficient itinerary structure. This open-jaw routing costs marginally more but saves significant ground travel time and internal flight costs.

Travel Within Italy - Getting Around

Italy's internal transport is excellent and efficient when you know how to use it. Italy's high-speed rail network makes travelling between major cities fast, comfortable, and often cheaper than flying.

  • Rome → Florence: ~1 hr 25 min
  • Florence → Venice: ~2 hrs
  • Rome → Venice: ~3 hrs 45 min
  • Rome → Naples: ~1 hr 10 min
  • Milan → Venice: ~2 hrs 30 min

Travel Tips to Tarvel Within Italy

  • Use Frecciarossa and Italo trains for city-to-city travel.
  • Book tickets 2–4 months in advance for the best fares.
  • Compare prices on both operators before booking.
  • Regional train tickets must be validated before boarding; high-speed train tickets do not require validation.

Pro Tip: For Rome, Florence, Venice, Milan, and Naples, trains are usually faster and more convenient than domestic flights.

Getting Around Within Italian Cities

  • Rome: Use the metro, buses, and trams. A 48-hour or 72-hour transport pass offers excellent value.
  • Florence: Best explored on foot. Most major attractions are within walking distance.
  • Venice: Travel by vaporetto (water bus). A 24-hour or 48-hour pass is recommended for unlimited rides.
  • Rental Cars: Ideal for Tuscany and the Italian countryside, but unnecessary in major cities.

Pro Tip: Skip the car in Rome, Florence, and Venice; public transport and walking are faster, cheaper, and far less stressful.

Italy Food Guide for Indian Travellers

Italian food is one of the world's great culinary traditions, and for Indian travellers, it offers more familiar territory than most European cuisines. Olive oil, fresh tomatoes, legumes, and grain-based dishes form a common thread with Indian food logic.

Must-Try Italian Dishes

  • Carbonara (Rome): Rome's iconic pasta made with egg yolk, guanciale, Pecorino Romano, and black pepper. A must-try for non-vegetarians.
  • Cacio e Pepe (Rome): A simple yet flavourful combination of pasta, Pecorino cheese, and black pepper. One of Italy's best vegetarian dishes.
  • Bistecca Fiorentina (Florence): A legendary Tuscan T-bone steak, grilled rare and served by weight. Perfect for meat lovers.
  • Ribollita (Tuscany): A traditional Tuscan soup made with bread, beans, and vegetables. Hearty, comforting, and vegetarian-friendly.
  • Margherita Pizza (Naples): The birthplace of pizza. Expect a thin crust topped with San Marzano tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella, and fresh basil.
  • Cicchetti (Venice): Venice's answer to tapas, small bites served in traditional wine bars, ideal for a quick lunch or snack.
  • Gelato: Skip touristy displays and look for artisan gelaterias. Popular flavours include pistachio, stracciatella, and wild strawberry.
  • Espresso: Enjoy it like a local, standing at the café counter. Expect to pay around €1–1.50 (₹95–₹145), compared to €4–6 (₹380–₹575) when seated.

Vegetarian Travellers: Italy is surprisingly vegetarian-friendly, with dishes such as pasta, risotto, pizza, Ribollita, and countless regional specialities available across the country.

Indian vegetarian options in Italy:

Italy is one of the easiest European countries for vegetarians to travel in, with plenty of meat-free options available across restaurants and cafés.

  • Pizza, pasta, risotto, and gnocchi are widely available vegetarian choices.
  • Vegetarian antipasti such as bruschetta, olives, caprese salad, and grilled vegetables are common starters.
  • Always check ingredients, as some risottos, gnocchi, and cheeses may contain animal-based rennet.
  • Indian restaurants can be found in major cities such as Rome, Florence, and Milan for travellers craving familiar flavours.

For Jain Travellers

  • Jain meals require advance planning, as onion and garlic are commonly used in Italian cuisine.
  • Inform your travel advisor before departure to help identify suitable restaurants and arrange Jain-friendly meal options wherever possible.

Italy SIM Card and Connectivity

Staying connected in Italy is easy and affordable, making a local SIM card a better option than most international roaming plans.

  • Buy a SIM card from Vodafone, TIM, or WindTre at major airports or city stores.
  • Typical cost: €15–25 (₹1,400–₹2,400) for 15–20 GB of data valid for 30 days.
  • Most plans include EU roaming, allowing you to use the same SIM across countries such as France, Switzerland, and other European destinations.
  • Essential apps for travel: WhatsApp, Google Maps, and offline navigation apps like Maps.me.

Pro Tip: Download offline maps before travelling to make navigation easier in historic centres, where narrow streets can sometimes affect GPS accuracy.

Italy Safety for Indian Travellers

  • Beware of pickpockets in crowded areas such as the Colosseum, Vatican, St. Mark's Square, and major train stations. Keep bags zipped and valuables secure.
  • Use only licensed white taxis with meters and avoid unofficial taxi offers at airports and tourist hotspots.
  • Check for restaurant cover charges (coperto) before dining. Most restaurants charge €1.50–3 (₹145–₹290) per person, which is standard across Italy.
  • Save the emergency number (112) for police, ambulance, and fire services anywhere in Italy.
  • Save the Indian Embassy contact in Rome (+39 06 4884642) before travelling for added peace of mind.

Italy is one of Europe's safest destinations for tourists, with petty theft in busy areas being the most common issue.

Our experience with PYT was nothing short of amazing. We had originally planned a vacation to Greece and while we were contemplating on the list of islands to visit in Greece with profound excitement, PYT team shared the same excitement as us and brought up this idea of visiting Italy also, instead of just doing Greece, thereby adding versatility to our vacation. And they came up with this beautiful itinerary for us - Venice -> Santorini -> Athens. They intently paid heed to what our interests were and made all the bookings accordingly. Regardless of the time gap, they even promptly responded to our queries while we were in the midst of our vacation. We are grateful for their seamless customer service and look forward to plan our future trips with PickYourTrail :)

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best Italy tour package from India for first-time visitors?

A 8-night 9-day package covering Rome (3 nights) + Florence with a Pisa day trip (2 nights) + Venice (3 nights) is the classic first-timer Italy itinerary from India. It covers the country's three most iconic cities without feeling rushed, using Frecciarossa high-speed trains for intercity travel.

What is the approximate cost of an Italy trip from India?

A 7-night Italy holiday package from India starts from approximately ₹85,000 per person (budget, twin sharing, land only). Mid-range packages with 4-star hotels run ₹1,10,000–₹1,60,000 per person. International round-trip flights add approximately ₹55,000–₹1,10,000 per person depending on departure city and booking lead time.

How many days are enough for an Italy trip?

7 days – 8 days covers the Rome–Florence–Venice classic route comfortably. 10 days – 11 days allows you to add either the Amalfi Coast or Tuscany. 12–14 days is recommended if including Cinque Terre, Naples/Pompeii, or combining with Switzerland.

Can I combine Italy with Switzerland or France?

Yes. Italy + Switzerland is our most popular European combination. The rail connection between Milan and Zurich takes approximately 3.5 hours. A 12–14 night Italy + Switzerland package is a seamless combination. Italy + France (Paris) works well as an open-jaw itinerary: fly into Rome, travel through Italy, cross to France by train or flight, and fly home from Paris.

Is Italy safe for Indian tourists?

Italy is a safe destination for tourists. The main risks are petty theft (pickpocketing) in crowded tourist areas, take standard precautions with bags and phones. The 2024 Italy safety index consistently ranks it among Europe's safer destinations for tourists. The emergency number is 112 (English-speaking operators available).

What is the cheapest time to book an Italy package?

November to February (excluding Christmas week) offers the lowest hotel and package prices, 30–40% cheaper than peak summer. April–May and September–October offer the best balance of good weather and reasonable prices. For flights, booking 10–14 weeks in advance from India typically secures the best fares.

How do I get from one Italian city to another?

High-speed Frecciarossa and Italo trains are the best way to travel between Rome, Florence, Venice, Milan, and Naples. Book 90–120 days ahead for the lowest fares. Regional trains cover smaller towns; these use fixed-price tickets that require validation before boarding.
